Or the steak entree flight with bison ribeye, elk tenderloin, and a Boursin-stuffed filet.

Though that isn’t a bad thing at all because yes we know how to make some damn good BBQ, nevertheless, we also have some of the best overall foods and chefs America has to offer. I have been honored to learn and be taught by some of the best around here in my years in school and still to this day continue to grow and pick the brains of our local chefs so that I can become the best Chef I can be.

The pace of new enterprises rarely falters as people open mom-and-pop shops all the time. Even during the pandemic, restaurateurs continued introducing new concepts to the Memphis food scene. We have been tasting for months and months and have worked really hard on creating an offering that has something for everyone.

Due to smaller batches, they are able to really give attention to their wine. This past year I collaborated with three winemakers I met in California, and we produced three different wines that I cannot wait to share with our guests! What an experience it was to walk through a vineyard at 4 a.m., watch the fruit be harvested, stomp on it a few hours later, and watch it go into the press. It really gives you a whole new respect for winemakers and what they do.

In addition to an extensive wine and sparkling wine program, The Hen House will also have a craft cocktail program. Mixologist Tony Nguyen will be making craft cocktails using house-made syrups and tinctures. Like Knight, Nguyen will also be leading educational tastings and classes on craft cocktails. Owner Nuha Abuduhair’s patisserie in midtown serves pastel-colored pastries, along with coffee and tea, in a storefront that’s bathed in white. She named the business after the address of her childhood home, which serves as a tribute to her late father, who came to Memphis from Palestine.

Learning how to bake and cook from her ignited my passion and my love for cooking. She helped me see that regardless of your background, food can always bring people together. Over Yonder ice cream and charcuterie from chef Jimmy Gentry of Paradox Catering are just two examples of local foods that will appear on the wine bar’s food menu. Soul Fish hits the perfect intersection of price, comfort food, and atmosphere, with four locations spread out across the metro area to choose from. As the name implies, fish is the signature offering here, including fried and baked versions; the catfish basket is one of the more popular items. But there are plenty of additional tasty choices if you’re after something else, including po’ boys, tacos, salads, vegetable plates, and more.

Though they may be very different from each other, these businesses form a connective tissue linking communities, making some of the city’s must-visit restaurants deliciously essential parts of the fabric of Memphis. Check out their collab with Memphis-based Blue Note Bourbon, for which Vice & Virtue aged green Guatemalan coffee beans in Blue Note’s emptied barrels before roasting. I think that we would have so many more people drinking and experiencing wine if it wasn’t so intimidating. There is SO much to learn about wine and so much wine to try. It can be really overwhelming, that’s for sure, and it is hard knowing where to start.
